As an anti-ageing and blemish control serum in one, Blemish + Age Defense is a unique formula combining LHA, Glycolic Acid, Citric Acid, Dioic Acid and Salicylic Acid for acne-prone skin. This highly efficacious combination targets excess oil and blemish-prone skin, as well as rough skin, fine lines and wrinkles.

In a dermatologist-controlled 8-week study of 50 multi-ethnic subjects aged 25-50, Blemish + Age Defense reduced sebum by 39% and improved fine lines by 28% at Week 4. Results were seen as early as day 2, with Blemish + Age Defense significantly reducing blemishes. Individual results may vary. Blemish + Age Defense also reduced blotchiness and clogged pores for the entire duration of the 8 week study. (Baumann, L. Blemish + Age Defense was proven to be as effective and tolerable as 0.025% tretinoin in both anti-ageing and anti-acne attributes, producing statistically superior improvements in skin tone, evenness and clarity, and a reduction in blemishes and blotchiness.
As early as Day 2, improvements were seen in skin tone evenness and clarity, skin smoothness, skin brightness, clogged pores, blemishes, and blotchiness. Parity was achieved between the two treatments in reduction of fine lines, clogged pores, tactile roughness, and dullness.

After 4 weeks, Blemish + AGE Defence was proven to statistically reduce the grade of Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) by 19%.

However, if you are new to exfoliating ingredients such as salicylic acid, lipo-hydroxy acid and glycolic acid, SkinCeuticals recommends using the blemish serum every second night to start with, as part of your evening skincare routine, and building up to daily use over a period of time. This is to help your skin build tolerance and help minimise any potential skin irritation. Once your skin is acclimatised, Blemish + Age Defense Serum can be used daily in both AM and PM skincare routines. Always end your morning skincare routine with a broad-spectrum high SPF sunscreen, because chemical exfoliants like salicylic acid, lipo-hydroxy acid and glycolic acid tend to increase sun sensitivity.

Can you use SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defense Serum every day?

Yes, Blemish + Age Defense Serum can be used daily. To maximise benefits, SkinCeuticals in fact recommends using twice daily. However, if you are new to ingredients such as salicylic acid or glycolic acid, we recommend first building tolerance by using only every second night, moving up to daily use and then to twice daily. No, Blemish + Age Defense Serum cannot be used with retinol in the same routine. However, it can be used at different times on the same day, i.e., morning and evening. Retinol and salicylic acid are both robust chemical exfoliants in their own right. Using them at the same time may be too harsh for your skin and lead to adverse reactions.
