FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT INTENSE PULSED LIGHT >
IPL Laser at a Glance
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment, also known as a photofacial, is a type of light therapy that uses light of various wavelengths to penetrate the second layer of skin (dermis) without affecting the outermost layer (epidermis). This treatment sends energy to pigment cells to destroy unwanted pigment that appears as freckles or other age spots. It’s also used to target hair follicles to stop hair growth.
What to Know About IPL Treatments
IPL is an effective treatment to target unwanted discolouration and hyperpigmentation, however some visible spots on the skin may be signs of abnormal cell growth under the skin. Abnormal cell growth will need to be addressed differently, which is why it’s important you consult with a practitioner when considering IPL so they can determine whether it’s suitable.
