Kombucha
What is Kombucha?
Kombucha is a lightly effervescent drink made by fermenting sweetened black tea using a symbiotic combination of bacteria and yeast. During the fermentation process, healthy bacteria, organic acids like acetic and lactic acid, vitamin C and B-group vitamins, along with very low levels of alcohol, are produced. The living bacteria in kombucha are considered to be probiotic, and thought to provide various health benefits, including as an immunity booster. Juice, spices, fruit, or other flavourings are often added.
Thought to have originated in China over 2,000 years ago, in recent years kombucha has leapt in popularity from niche, home-made fermented tea to widespread commercial availability in the supermarket aisle.
Drinking kombucha is widely thought to be great for gut health and a healthy gut microbiome, but does it offer any skin benefits?
